History of Elsternwick Toastmasters
Elsternwick Toastmasters club grew from a realization that clubs in the local area had grown too big and that a new club was needed. Members from a number of the local clubs got together and decided to build a new club in the Elsternwick area. Balaclava and South Melbourne Toastmasters clubs were approached and have been instrumental in helping and supporting the new club in their area. Thanks goes to the following people and clubs:
Balaclava Toastmasters Club
South Melbourne Toastmasters Club
Moorabbin Saints Toastmasters Club
Craig Wyrill (Area S26 Governor 2006-2007)
Michelle Monaghan (Moorabbin Saints Toastmasters Club)
Sandy Vitulic (South Melbourne Toastmasters Club)
John Konewka (Balaclava and Silver Service Toastmasters Clubs)
Ian Wallace (Balaclava, Silver Service and South Melbourne Toastmasters Clubs).
A committee was formed late 2006 and decided on a style, and ethos for the new club. The first meeting was held on the Thursday 18th January with ongoing meetings to occur on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month (as no other local club was meeting on a Thursday).
We are located in an area which possesses a diverse ethnic population and this provides our club with members from many backgrounds and different cultures which enriches the speech content and gives us all an opportunity to learn from others, we encourage and welcome this diversity.
